Dr Rolene Wagner

Dr Rolene Wagner is the newly appointed Medical Director of Netcare’s Primary Care Division, and former the Deputy Director-General: Hospitals and Clinical Support Management Services position in the Eastern Cape Department of Health. She obtained an MBChB (UCT) in 1996. She holds two Masters in Public Health (Cum Laude) at UWC and Fort Hare in 2003 and 2018, respectively. Dr.


In 2012, she took up the position as CEO of Frere Hospital. Together with her team, she spearheaded the turnaround strategy at Frere. Dr Wagner is a recognised and awarded leader in healthcare throughout Southern Africa.

Dr Judy Dlamini

Dr Judy Dlamini is the Founder and Executive Chairman of Mbekani Group, and the Chancellor of Wits University.  Judy started out as a medical doctor before changing into business. She is an entrepreneur, author, and philanthropist. After practising as a medical family practitioner for many years, she specialised in Occupational Health and consulted for different companies. Her MBA qualification from Wits University enabled her to change careers. She obtained a Doctorate in Business Leadership from UNISA in 2014 and a Stanford Innovation & Entrepreneurship Certificate in 2018.


She is the former Chairman of Aspen Pharmacare Limited (Aspen). She is a published author of ‘’Equal but Different” and “The Other Story”. She is the recipient of the African Economy Builder Lifetime Achiever Award for 2016 amongst several other awards. She received honorary Doctorates in Business from the Nelson Mandela University in 2018 and University of Kwa-Zulu Natal in Economics in 2019. 

Dr Ernest Kenoshi

Dr Ernest Kenoshi‚ is the former CEO of the Steve Biko Academic Hospital‚ and former acting Head of Department for the Gauteng Department of Health. Kenoshi a medical doctor, holds a Masters in Public Health from Wits University and has previously worked as a Senior Superintendent and Principal Medical officer in various hospitals around Gauteng. 

Prof Bruce Biccard

Bruce Biccard is a Professor and the Second Chair, Department of Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine, Groote Schuur Hospital and the University of Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. Founder of the African Perioperative Research Group (APORG) and leads the African Surgical Outcomes (ASOS) network, which collaborates across approximately 36 African countries with 2000 clinician investigators. 

Prof Jimmy Volmink

Jimmy Volmink is Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Professor in the Department of Global Health at Stellenbosch University.  He has previously served as the founding Director of Cochrane South Africa, as well as Director of Research and Analysis at the Global Health Council in Washington DC.  He obtained his BSc and MBChB degrees from the University of Cape Town.  


After 12 years in clinical practice, he received a Harvard/South Africa Fellowship and obtained an MPH from Harvard University.  Subsequently, he was awarded an Oxford Nuffield Medical Fellowship to study at Oxford University where he obtained a DPhil degree in Epidemiology. Prof Volmink is widely recognized for his contributions to Evidence-based Medicine.  He is an elected member of the Academy of Science of South Africa and an elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
